A restaurant, pizzeria and adjacent Champagne bar, Mediterraneo is housed in the ground floor of a beautifully renovated Victorian building on Ingram Street. Situated in the vibrant Merchant City area, it is the ideal location for a sophisticated night out, a working lunch or simply a glass of fizz, perhaps with half a dozen oysters.
A chic design, including floor to ceiling glass windows and an open plan kitchen, is just one of the attractions at this stylish venue. A wide variety of menus means that every guest is well catered for. There are several lunch and early evening menus which change regularly along with a very good value three course set menu. At lunchtime, Mediterraneo also offers piccolino – their own take on tapas with a choice of smaller sharing portions.
All the menus offer popular choices such as meatballs in sugo; crispy calamari and delicious pizza. Naturally, the a la carte selection offers the widest selection of dishes. Seafood is prominent throughout the a la carte from the starter of pan-fried scallops to the mixed seafood spaghetti via the monkfish stuffed with spinach and wrapped in Parma ham.
A great selection of pasta dishes are cooked to order while the pizza selection uses fresh fior di latte mozzarella from Italy. Classic Italian meat dishes served at Mediterraneo include the veal Milanese – breaded veal served with spaghetti and tomato sauce – along with chicken options such as the pollo alla voldostana – char grilled chicken supreme topped with fontina cheese and Parma ham, served with a tomato sauce and sage.
There are three cuts of Scotch beef at Mediterraneo: a sirloin, fillet and 12oz T-bone. All are cooked to the customer’s specification and served with hand-cut chips and a garnish. Diners have the option of adding a peppercorn, porcini or Chianti sauce.
