Fancy dinner with Gerard Butler or lunch with Lulu? They are just two of the many Scottish celebrities that look down from the walls of the Limelight Bar and Grill in Hotel Indigo. While the portraits and pictures of the stars give the walls at the Limelight more celeb wattage than the red carpet at the Oscars, they are not the only reason to pay a visit to this popular Waterloo Street venue.
The large, colourful booths and outsized lampshades are as eye-catching as the celebs at the Limelight but it is the food which really captures the imagination here. The executive chef at Limelight is passionate about fresh, locally sourced ingredients and it shows through on the plate.
Naturally, the menus change regularly depending on which ingredients are in season. Typical starters might be the West Coast mussels steamed in white wine or the terrine of Ayrshire ham hough which is served with foie gras, an apple and shallot chutney plus toasted sourdough. When game is in season, the main courses might include a whole, roasted red leg partridge. Fish lovers may prefer the salt hake served with squid Provencale or, that old favourite, the beer-battered fish with hand-cut chips.
The grill section of the menu is always popular with guests. Fillets, rib eyes, rumps and sirloins can all be cooked to your liking and partnered with peppercorn, red wine or Béarnaise sauces. For a lighter option, try the grilled lemon sole with wilted spinach and buttered new potatoes.
Cleverly, the desserts include the option of six different pudding pots to share. Why taste one dessert when you can try six? The adjoining bar is a lively spot for pre or post dinner cocktails and an entertaining game of name the celeb.
