At this point everyone has heard of Jamie Oliver and the opening of Jamie’s Italian was hotly anticipated. Glasgow loves Italian food and benefits from a lot of really great restaurants, but Jamie’s introduced the city to a slightly new dining concept.
The massive venue on George Square is spacious and open with different seating options. The huge family style tables help create a really informal atmosphere, as well as encouraging you to check out what other diners are having, which can generate some pretty major food envy!
The menu shoots for authentic Italian, with fresh, seasonal ingredients and really great meats and cheeses sourced from Italy. An extensive antipasti selection is great for sharing and you can make an entire meal out of a few of those, along with some fresh bread and their famous, must try, polenta chips. They’re very proud of their pasta too, which departs slightly from more some traditional Scottish Italian favourites. Sauces include wild rabbit, clams and crab.
Anyone familiar with Jamie Oliver from the television will know how important family is to him and this is reflected in the strong family friendly feeling of the restaurant. The children’s menu is carefully thought out to be appealing but also nutritious and the staff are all trained to treat children like the tiny customers they are. The way the children’s menus are delivered is really fun too - they’re on retro view master style toys so children hold them to their face and click through the menu sections.
