This large corner restaurant on Bothwell Street, decorated in monochrome and dark, polished wood, is infinitely stylish. The statement wallpaper and neon sign next to the kitchen hatch gives a trendy vibe, while the chandeliers hanging low over the tables and fairy lights in the windows make it feel slightly romantic. Its patrons certainly think so as Grill on the Corner is a popular choice for proposals. The staff are beyond friendly and helpful and genuinely care about building the perfect dining experience for their guests, whether that involves serving an engagement ring in a glass of Champagne or creating the perfect menu for a private party.
The restaurant’s slogan is ‘solid, honest & simple proper food’ and this is a motto they stick to. The large menu covers British and bistro favourites including French onion soup and dover sole with brown butter, but the difference is the care and pride with which they’re prepared. They are extremely proud of their seafood and proper gastro pub mains, but diners are mainly drawn to the restaurant for the steaks. Quality is king here and provenance of the beef is highlighted, including the type of life the animal had. If you’re feeling like a real treat splash out on their famous, £55 Wagyu fillet. These animals are raised on a beer diet and massaged from birth, which is claimed to produce the most tender beef. Look out also for their meat of the month - steaks from specially sourced breeds and farms.
Staff are extremely knowledgeable and undergo extensive and regular training to keep them that way. You’ll find them able to discuss the different cuts and make recommendations on what to eat and what wines to match with it.
Before or after your meal enjoy a civilised cocktail in the large bar. The mixologists really know their stuff and if there’s nothing on their signature cocktail list that takes your fancy they’re happy for you to go off menu. The bar hosts regular special events including cocktail masterclasses, and can also be booked for your own private events.
