There are times when a name says it all. A Little Taste of Italy – Ristorante Teatro doesn’t quite manage to say everything but it certainly gets the main points over. Authentic Italian cuisine is the name of the game at this friendly restaurant on Elmbank Street and the location, just over the road from the King’s Theatre, partially explains the ‘Teatro’ part of the title.
It is not just the location that gives this Italian a sense of theatre. Live background music most evenings makes for a buzzy atmosphere while the food produced by the kitchen earns plenty of applause. The mini-cocktail bar helps keep it all lively.
Of course, the value for money pre-theatre menu is always popular at A Little Taste of Italy but so are the other menus. The two course lunch menu is a hit with shoppers and office workers while the seasonal a la carte menu is often the choice of couples out for a romantic meal. Much loved pasta dishes and pizza feature as well as classic dishes like the tournedos Rossini – Scotch fillet steak cooked in brandy with a Madeira demi-glace topped with pâté.
The three course tasting menu is ideal for diners who want to sample the restaurant’s specialities such as the Cappesante Grande – pan-fried, fresh Shetland king scallops with a mosaic of Parma ham crisps, truffle mash, roasted julienne vegetables and a pepe rosa salsa.
The menus bring together dishes from the restaurants of Rome, the kitchens of Napoli and the dining rooms of Venice. What they all have in common is that they are made fresh, on-site by the restaurant’s own team of award-winning chefs. The kitchen uses quality local ingredients such as West Coast seafood and Scottish beef alongside authentic, imported Italian products such as fine cheeses and wines.
